Visions of a Nation - The Trans Canada Trail God has given us the wonderful gift of life and a beautiful world for us to walk through on our journey of discovery. The earth is our mother and all that sustains us comes from her. When our life is over, we become part of the earth; so if we think of the ground we walk on as the dust and ashes of our ancestors, we are able to be more respectful with the steps we take. We have the ability and responsibility to take care of this world and leave a beautiful legacy for our descendants.

I have a vision of many people walking the Trans Canada Trail with love and respect. I believe that of the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Earth is the element of the healer and if we care for the earth, we heal ourselves and those with whom we share the land.

I am reminded of the words of a prayer spoken by Chief Dan George of the Squamish Nation:

"I come to You as one of Your many children.
Great Spirit whose breath gives life to the world, hear me.
May I walk in beauty.
May my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears sharp to hear Your voice.
Make me wise that I may know the teachings
You have for Your children,
the lessons You have hidden in every leaf and rock.”
