GREAT BEAR ANCHORAGE - BLOCK MOUNT

We traveled the Douglas Channel from Kitimat to Whale Point where we enjoyed a visit to the Cetecea Lab and learned of the visits of orca, humpback, and fin whales. We were visited by sea lion, dall porpoise, and a mother and calf humpback whale. The porpoise played with us swimming back and forth across the bow of our boat as we cruised into Whale Point. Close by the Cetacea Lab was a large Eagle nest with the two eagles tending an egg or two.
At the end of an incredible day in the Great Bear Rainforest area we found a secluded anchorage in a bay the boys called, "Jellyfish Bay" due to the large numbers of jellyfish that discouraged swimming. As the sunset bathed us in a golden glow my son, Jordan rowboat ride with his siblings fishing and photographing everything he found interesting from barnacles on the beach to a most glorious sunset. That day is forever engrained in memory thanks to photo and this creation.
When the cruise was over we returned home where I sat back and looked through the photographs taken. There are many beautiful photos of our visit to the coast. I was struck by a photo that captured a peaceful anchorage and created this work I call, Great Bear Anchorage.
