Back to the Land - Block Mount

Edition Date: March 2008
Artist: Roy Henry Vickers
Medium: Block Mount
Framed Size: 13" x 9"

It has been three years in the making; it's about returning to the land as a people. The closer we are to the earth, the more respect we have, and the more respect, the more we will fight to protect. The old ways of our people are more valuable today than ever. The ancient laws transcend culture, language, money, education, and everything we have come to consider important. We are a people lost on the land of our ancestors, yet the directions for a way out are all around us. It's time to give value to what is and always will be the truth of the land.

Black Elk, the Oglala Sioux holy man, told us that. Chief Seattle has spoken this truth to the world. The ancient laws are based on truth, and truth is the freedom to be as we have always been called to be. It is time for those with the voice to shake the mountains, to shout, to sing the old songs from the land. It is time for us, whose names come from the land, to embody our names. It is time for those who carry the truth to bring it to those who will listen, and there are many. Our young people are lost, with no hope, and we look for answers in sustainable jobs and education, yet it is a move back to the land that will move us from survival to passion for life and all that it has for us.

Block Mount: High-quality print mounted on a 3/8” MDF board where a protective UV lamination is applied. Features a subtle 1/8" black beveled edge and a pre-cut hanger slot for easy hanging.
