Part of Roy's 1985 cheque series.
In 1985, Roy was commissioned by a Canadian bank to create a series of four background images for bank cheques. Because they were to be used as cheques, the dimensions had to match a standard cheque shape, and the palette had to be softer than his usual bold colour work to avoid overpowering the information on the cheques.
A Quiet Place I & II were made using the same serigraph stencil, but with different colour palettes. These prints were made after a trip to Haida Gwaii, where he was moved by a totem pole that was half-fallen over with grass growing out of it.
