KILLER WHALE - CONSIGNMENT #41/100

Edition Date: 2006
Artist: Roy Henry Vickers
Medium: Serigraph
Image Size: 22" x 14. 3/4"

The Killer Whale more commonly known to the world today as Orca is one of the main crests of coastal people. The early explorers from Europe witnessed these incredible mammals working as a team and killing larger whales for food and so they were called killer whales. The First Nations peoples of the coast know these whales more intimately and admire their family systems as well as their intelligence. There are so many ancient legends about these whales as well as modern stories. The most recent whale known to the world is Luna; an incredible story of a young whale who loved boats and people. Luna’s friendly nature brought an untimely death underneath a tugboat. Luna got too close to the spinning propeller of the tugboat and was struck dead. We will all miss this beautiful whale. This older styled design was inspired by my son, Gord who admires much of my work from the late 1970’s and early 80’s.
