Our legends tell us that Raven was born to a virgin, the daughter of the Chief of the Heavens. Raven brought the light to a world that was surviving in darkness, the light was from the sun, moon, and stars. So this would be Raven the Creator. The stories also tell us that Raven loved food and had a voracious appetite and would sometimes come through the smoke holes of houses when the fish were being smoked and help himself to the food. On one of these food-stealing episodes, Raven ate so much that he got stuck in the smoke hole and was turned black by the smoke. So it is that Raven in his original state was pure white, the Creator.
