Medium: Serigraph
Image Size: 19 7/8" x 13"

Tonquin is a local sandy beach near the town of Tofino. I’ve spent many beautiful evenings there watching the sunset over Clayoquot Sound. There is a history behind the name of the beach which comes from the ship, Tonquin, which was destroyed in the channel. The crew of the ship were killed by the local Tla-o-qui-aht people over a dispute involving the trade of sea otter pelts.

Today many visit this beautiful beach and can often see orca or grey whales rubbing and playing on the sandbar in Templar Channel. The white sandy beach is a great place to escape the crowds in the summer.

This print was inspired by our beautiful west coast sunsets looking northwest from Tonquin Beach.
