Otter - Block Mount
- Story
Back in the spring of 1980, I made my first trip to the West Coast. I was the skipper of a freezer troller. My first otter sighting was many miles offshore. As I trolled along one day, I passed this peculiar-looking sight: an otter floating on its back. He just lay on the ocean surface and watched as I went by. I hoped to see another, but have yet to do so.
I was in Tofino for spring break with my family. After a few days in the gallery, I enjoyed visiting Hot Springs Cove with friends and family.
As we headed around the far side of Flores Island, we came across four sea otters enjoying the area. They were the first ones I had seen in more than two decades. A day or two later, a young girl brought me a postcard with a photograph of a sea otter her father had taken. On the same trip, we visited Science World in Vancouver, and my son chose a stuffed toy sea otter to remember the trip.
I thought of the many years the Sea Otter was near extinction. With the help of many concerned people, the Otter has recovered and can be seen in many places along our coast.
Block Mount: High-quality print mounted on a 3/8” MDF board where a protective UV lamination is applied. Features a 3/4" black wood frame and a pre-cut hanger slot for easy hanging. (No glass).
