Sandcastles - Remarque #1/15

Edition Date: June 2002
Artist: Roy Henry Vickers
Medium: Remarque
Image Size: 20" x 11.5

When I first realized that I could help the Cops for Cancer “Tour de Rock”, there was no doubt in my mind that I would be involved. Since I was young, cancer has been a very large pain. Many of my closest friends and peers have lost their lives to this disease.

The first great pain was losing an aunt and two very close friends, one only a teenager, but the largest blow was losing my mother. The pain has been and continues to be apart of my everyday life. There are a number of loved ones who have overcome the threat and continue to live. There is always hope. I am thankful for family, friends, and many caring people for the support and comfort that we can give one another. These are a few of the reasons I am involved with this important community project.

Sandcastles is about the love of life and our creativity as human beings. This powerful image speaks of playing together, being together, side by side on our life’s journey. The loon in the water represents the healing hands of nature. The loon is thought of in the context of healing by the First Nations people of Canada. The Eagle is my crest and is always with me.

In the case of Sandcastles, this scripture comes to mind;

"Those that pray to God shall renew their

strength, they shall mount up with wings as the

eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they

shall walk and not faint."

There is nothing more important than to surround each other with prayers for peace, health and happiness.
