The Indians who live along the West Coast of Vancouver Island are direct descendants of a race of people who have occupied the land for thousands of years. These brave mariners navigated the open ocean of the North Pacific in hand-hewn, cedar canoes long before the arrival of the European. They knew intimately the perilous area of the West Coast referred to as “The Graveyard of the Pacific”.

The original inhabitants of this coastline hunted the mammoth whales for centuries. Now the introduction of advanced technology has almost brought the whales to the verge of extinction.

I have lived and worked with the people on the West Coast for years and have come to respect them. THE WESTCOASTERS is a tribute to the courageous and indomitable spirit of the West Coast People.
