Whenever I think of a wolf howling, my mind returns to a misty morning on an elk hunting trip. My buddy and I were sitting in the fog, realizing we weren’t going to see much, so we pulled out our thermoses to enjoy a coffee.
As we sat quietly, we heard this soft wolf howl nearby. As we listened in wonder, we heard another howl like a little wolf with a higher-pitched voice. Momma would howl a long, low howl, and then the pup would follow with its little howl. As we listened, we finally saw faintly in the fog, there was Mom and Pup sitting together howling.
I thought of the wolf moon in winter.
This memory will remain fresh in my mind until the end of my life.
