- Story
On October 19, 2010, Jo-Ann Fuller and Ivan Polivka died when their ambulance jumped a retaining wall crashing into the waters of Kennedy Lake. "The ambulance" that had saved so many lives as a result of their devotion and hard work as paramedics was the vehicle that held them when their lives ended.
There are many great tributes in memory of Jo-Ann and Ivan from their fellow
paramedics and friends. I am grateful to be counted as one who knew both of them and had an understanding of their work because I was on ambulance duty years ago with the Saanich Fire Department.
Perhaps Jo-Ann sensed my understanding of the demands of her profession. Regardless of what the connection might have been, Jo-Ann was a strong supporter of the gallery and she was often among the visitors for my storytelling engagements and new releases. She had a quiet way of encouraging me as both an artist and a member of the community of Tofino.
