Oola! Oola! - Block Mount

Edition Date: 1976
Artist: Roy Henry Vickers
Medium: Block Mount
Image Size: 13" x 10"

This work was inspired by my thoughts of what hunting seals must have been like before the white man came to the Northwest Coast. The Indians on the coast hunted from canoes and used bows and arrows, harpoons, clubs, and spears. I chose to portray the seagoing hunters utilizing bows and arrows.

The day is windy, with a frequent downpour of rain commonly experienced on the coast. The stern man is holding the canoe back as the wind tries to blow them forward too quickly. The hunter cries, “Oola! Oola!” (Seal! Seal!), and the bowman is ready for the shot.

Block Mount: High-quality print mounted on a 3/8” MDF board where a protective UV lamination is applied. Features a subtle 1/8" black beveled edge and a pre-cut hanger slot for easy hanging.
