The dragonfly is another rare crest among the northwest coast nations. I recall stories as a child that told us if we ate dragonfly wings, we would be good swimmers, so we ate them as children. I did learn to swim well as an older child but never thought that the dragonfly wings helped me.

I often thought about designing a dragonfly, so this is my final result. In doing this work, I wondered about the choices for some of the crests, like the dragonfly. I realize that the dragonfly is a powerful example of transformation, a recurring theme in all northwest coast mythology.
