This Winter brings a decades old dream to reality for me. When I was a teenager my family moved from Hazelton to Victoria and I always thought I would return to the North to live. This Solstice finds the change from Fall to Winter accompanied by a change from city to country with a slower and more relaxed pace of life and a home on the river.

Early one morning, my son Gord and I were on the Skeena about four hundred meters up river from our home. Dawn slipped through and greeted us with a wondrous spectacle of mighty mountains and the river. Two little lights glowed in the distance to remind us that the rest of the family would be rising soon and we could anticipate hot coffee and breakfast when we were ready to go home.

The eagle has landed and the steelhead continue to run, the leaves are gone and snows have come. We look forward to a snowy white Christmas with family and friends as we look back at Solstice 2004.
